TorBox vs Real-Debrid Cache: What Is Different in 2026
Published Last updated Reviewed November 2026
The practical difference is transparency and retention, not a bigger number. TorBox says files are cached for at least 30 days and its API tells apps exactly what is cached. For Real-Debrid, there are unofficial reports from May 2026 onward that a lot of previously instant items stopped being instantly available. Neither service publishes the size of its cache, so be wary of anyone quoting one.
What a debrid cache is
A debrid service downloads a file on its own servers and stores it. If someone else asks for the same file, they get it instantly from storage, with no waiting for the original peers or source. That shared store is the cache. It is what makes a debrid service feel fast, and it is why availability matters more than raw line speed. If you are new to the term, start with what debrid is.
How TorBox describes its cache
From the TorBox help center, as of November 2026:
- When a file is downloaded to TorBox it is saved to the cache for at least 30 days.
- Anyone who adds the same item inside that window gets it instantly.
- Torrents, web downloads and Usenet downloads are all compatible with the cache.
- Cached items do not count against your active slot limit.
“At least 30 days” is a floor, not a promise of how long popular items remain. TorBox does not publish a figure for total cache size.
What is reported about Real-Debrid
Real-Debrid is an older, widely used service. Its website blocks automated checking, so this section relies on secondary sources, and you should read it as reports rather than fact:
- ElfHosted wrote on 12 May 2026, and several community blogs and forums say, that from around 10 May 2026 many cached items stopped being instantly available on Real-Debrid.
- Some of those pieces attribute it to keyword-based filtering of certain release tags. That is a claim made by third parties. We have not seen an official Real-Debrid statement confirming the cause or the scale.
- Some write-ups put a percentage on the loss. We are not repeating any, because they are anecdotal and we could not verify them.
- Earlier, Real-Debrid reportedly removed its instant availability endpoint, which made it harder for third-party tools to check what was cached in advance. We have not confirmed this on a Real-Debrid page.
Many of the sources that discuss this are themselves affiliate sites that favour TorBox, ours included. Treat the numbers with caution.

What this means in practice
- If you use lawful content such as your own files, public domain media or Linux images, you may never hit availability gaps on either service. Filtering reports concern popular release categories, not your own uploads.
- Cache status matters most when you rely on instant playback. Check that the specific items you use come up as available, not just whether the service has a large reputation.
- The fastest test is cheap. TorBox lets free accounts use a 24 hour Pro trial, and its Essential plan is $3 per month at list price.
Verdict
If your priority is predictable, openly reported cache behaviour and the option to also use Usenet, TorBox is the better fit. If you already use Real-Debrid and it works for what you need, there is no reason to switch based on rumours. Run both for a month if you are unsure.
