TorBox Free Plan 2026: Limits and When to Upgrade

The free plan costs nothing and gives you a small taste: 10 downloads a month, 10GB per download, no seeding. Good for testing, not for daily use.

Last updated Reviewed November 2026

Yes, TorBox has a free plan. As of November 2026 it includes 1 slot, 10GB per download, up to 250Mbps and 10 downloads per month, with no seeding and no web downloads. It is enough to test whether the service works for you. It is not enough to replace a paid plan if you download regularly.

Choosing a term: if you are sure you will use TorBox for a year, make 12 months your first purchase. Only the first purchase on an account earns the bonus, and 12 months is the only term that earns the full 84 bonus days (21 for 3 months, 42 for 6). Renewals do not earn it. See the current price at checkout.

One slot means one download at a time. A 10GB cap per download rules out larger files such as a full Linux distribution DVD bundle or big backups, but covers most standard ISO images. Ten downloads a month works out at about one every three days.

What it is good for

  • Checking that TorBox works with your connection and apps.
  • Trying the web interface and the shared cache, which is kept for 30 days.
  • Testing a third-party app integration before paying. There are 60+ apps that work with TorBox, though check each before relying on it.
  • Light use: fetching the occasional Linux ISO, public domain media or a file you have rights to.

Where it falls short

No seeding. If you use torrents and want to share back, you cannot on the free plan.

No web downloads. Web downloads are a paid feature.

Usenet. Usenet is a paid-plan feature. The free plan page and the pricing page do not word this the same way, so verify in the plan table before you plan around it. See Usenet.

Speed and size. 250Mbps is decent, but 10GB per file is a hard wall, and one slot makes any batch job slow.

No permanent storage. AirLock permanent storage is paid only.

Planning around 10 downloads

Ten downloads a month is a budget, so spend it deliberately. A sensible pattern for a test month:

  • Download 1: a small public domain or open licence file, to check the path from request to your disk.
  • Download 2: a mid-sized Linux ISO close to the 10GB cap, to see real speed against your connection (the plan is limited to 250Mbps; see the slow speed checklist if it crawls).
  • Download 3: the same file through your media app or WebDAV, so you test the integration and not just the web interface. See WebDAV.
  • Downloads 4 to 10: keep in reserve for the things you actually need.

If you burn through the ten in the first week, that is your answer: you are a paid-plan user. The free vs paid comparison goes through the differences feature by feature.

When to upgrade

Upgrade when you hit any of these:

  1. You use all 10 downloads before the month ends.
  2. A file is over 10GB.
  3. You need more than one download at the same time.
  4. You want to seed, or use Usenet or web downloads.
  5. You use it with a media app daily and want stable access.

At list price, Essential is $3 a month (3 slots, 200GB per download, 1Gbps, 24 hour seeding, 300GB storage), Standard $5, Pro $10. Multi-month prices are shown at checkout after login. Compare them on the pricing page or read the Essential plan page.

Which paid plan after the free one

If the free plan limit you hit isLook atWhy
File size over 10GB, or only 1 slotEssential, $33 slots, 200GB per download
You want to keep seeding for daysStandard, $514 day seeding, 500GB storage
Heavy use, Usenet, long seedingPro, $1010 slots, 1TB per download, 30 day seeding, unlimited RSS and Usenet

The step from $0 to $3 is the biggest jump in what you get. Moving up from Essential is only worth it if you can name the specific limit you keep hitting.

For scale, the bonus on 3 months of Essential is 21 days, which we estimate at about $2.10 of service (21 x $3 / 30, from the monthly list price).

Free plan and your bonus

This is the part people miss. Your bonus of 7 extra days per month purchased applies to your first paid purchase. Signing up for the free plan is not a purchase, so you do not use up the bonus. You can stay on the free plan as long as you like, and when you are ready to pay, open our link first, confirm the popup and then buy. Details at referral code.

If you already have a free account, no problem. Log in, open the link, confirm the popup, then upgrade. If the popup does not appear, do not buy, see how to use the link.

Do not make extra free accounts

Creating several accounts to get around the monthly limit or to farm the bonus can get you banned. Upgrade instead of multiplying accounts.

Verdict

Use the free plan to test. Move to Essential at $3 a month when 10GB and 10 downloads stop being enough, and use our link for that first purchase.
