TorBox Essential Plan ($3): Limits and Who It Fits
Essential is TorBox's entry paid plan at $3 per month as of November 2026. It has the same download cap and speed as Standard, with fewer slots and shorter seeding.
Last updated Reviewed November 2026
Essential is the plan this site suggests starting on. It costs $3 per month as of November 2026, which works out to about $0.10 a day before any bonus days. It lacks the long seeding of Standard and the headroom of Pro, but for a single user the practical difference is small.
- Price
- $3 per month (list, USD)
- Slots
- 3
- Per-download cap
- 200 GB
- Speed
- 1 Gbps
- Seeding
- 24 hours
- Storage
- 300 GB
Choosing a term: if you are sure you will use TorBox for a year, make 12 months your first purchase. Only the first purchase on an account earns the bonus, and 12 months is the only term that earns the full 84 bonus days (21 for 3 months, 42 for 6). Renewals do not earn it. Limits at a glance
| Free | Essential | Standard | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $0 | $3 | $5 |
| Slots | 1 | 3 | 5 |
| Max per download | 10 GB | 200 GB | 200 GB |

| Seeding | none | 24 hours | 14 days |

The free column is there so you can see what the $3 buys: web downloads, 20 times the per-download size, four times the speed and real seeding.
Who Essential fits
- One person, one or two devices. Three slots means three active transfers. If your usual pattern is “add something, wait a minute, watch or copy it”, you will rarely hit three at once.
- Anyone using TorBox mainly as a cached download source. When a file is already in the shared cache, it comes down at your line speed with no wait. Slots are used only briefly.
- Occasional Usenet or web download users. Both are available on paid plans, and the occasional use does not need extra slots.
- People testing the service. A one-month Essential is the cheapest way to try the paid features.
Real usage examples
A Linux user keeping ISOs and tools. Fetching a 4 to 8 GB distribution image, or a few at a time for a lab, is nowhere near 200 GB and finishes at your connection speed. Essential is plenty.
A photographer moving a large archive. Pulling a 150 GB archive through a web download fits under the 200 GB cap and under the 300 GB storage. If the archive were 400 GB you would hit the cap and Pro’s 1 TB would be the answer.
A household with one shared account. Three slots can run out when two people start downloads while a third is streaming from a cached item. That is the first sign to look at Standard. TorBox’s Help Center allows sharing with friends and family under a fair share policy, but its abuse-system article lists mass account sharing as flaggable, so keep it to your own household and plan slots around that.
Where Essential runs out
- Seeding. 24 hours is short. If you care about upload ratio, this plan is the wrong one.
- Slots. RSS automation can fill three slots quickly if you subscribe to many feeds.
- Storage. 300 GB is a working area, not an archive. For permanent storage look at AirLock (a paid feature).
A month on Essential, concretely
Say you add four things in a week: two Linux distribution images (about 5 GB each), a 40 GB set of your own project backups pulled from a web link, and an NZB for a public domain archive. None of that comes near the 200 GB cap, the storage allowance has room for all of it, and no more than two transfers overlap. Everything fits on Essential with space to spare, and you would pay about $0.10 a day for it.
Now change one thing: you subscribe to a dozen RSS feeds and a script queues new items all day. Three slots fill, and items start waiting for each other. That is the point to look at Standard, not before.
Slots and simultaneous use
A TorBox slot is one active transfer: a torrent or download that is running or seeding. As of November 2026 the Help Center lists 1 slot on Free, 3 on Essential, 5 on Standard and 10 on Pro. Slots count transfers, not people or devices, so 3 slots means 3 transfers active at once. Cached files do not use a slot, extra items wait in a queue and start when a slot frees up, and a download with no progress for 2 days is removed. With 3 slots, two people starting downloads while a third queues another will see the third wait.
On devices and IPs, a Help Center article says TorBox does not track your IP and sets no limit on how many devices are logged in, with a fair share policy on top. Its abuse-system article lists mass account sharing among the behaviours that can get an account flagged, warned or banned. Using one account across your own devices is the normal case. Sharing one account between households can lead to restrictions, and the GitHub comparison reports a Terms change against account and API-key sharing, so read the current Terms before sharing.
Cost over time
At the $3 monthly list price a year is $36 if you pay month by month. Longer terms can have different prices, and TorBox shows them only after login, so this site does not guess. What can be said with certainty is the bonus: a first purchase through our link adds 7 days per month bought to your plan, so 3 months adds 21 days, 6 months adds 42 and 12 months adds 84. Valued at the monthly rate those are estimates of about $2.10, $4.20 and $8.40, computed as days x $3 / 30, not figures from TorBox.
Upgrading and downgrading
Upgrade when a specific limit bites: a queue of waiting transfers, seeding that ends too soon, a storage warning. Do not upgrade for speed, because Standard has the same 1 Gbps. Downgrade to Essential if you pay for Standard and have not seeded or queued more than three things in a month. Check how your remaining time is handled before switching mid-term, since refunds for unused time are not given.
Essential versus Standard
The $2 difference buys 2 more slots, 13 more days of seeding and 200 GB more storage. It buys no extra speed and no larger single download. If you do not seed and you do not run more than three things at once, Standard is wasted money. See the Standard plan for the other side, and Pro if you hit the 200 GB or 1 Gbps ceiling.
What the bonus days do on Essential
You get 7 extra days for each month you buy, on a first purchase made through our link. For Essential, that is the same percentage effect as for any other plan: three months becomes 111 days, so the per-day cost drops about 19 percent. At the list price, roughly $0.10 per day falls to about $0.081, assuming a longer term is priced like monthly payments. TorBox shows its 3, 6 and 12 month prices only after login, so check the real figure at checkout.
You must be logged in and confirm the popup after opening the link. If no popup appears, usually because of an ad blocker, do not buy yet. The full pricing page has the maths for all tiers.
Claim 84 bonus days with a year (opens TorBox in a new tab, affiliate link)Works on the first purchase of each account only. Because only the first purchase counts, a longer first term earns more bonus days (3 months = 21, 6 = 42, 12 = 84). It is the same percentage and not a cheaper price, so check the price at checkout and only pick a year if you will use it.

What does the TorBox Essential plan include?
As of November 2026: 3 slots, 200 GB per download, 1 Gbps, 24 hours of seeding and 300 GB of storage, for $3 per month. Check the plan table on torbox.app for changes.
Is Essential enough for a media app like Stremio or Kodi?
For one person using one or two devices, usually yes. Cached files start fast and 3 slots cover typical use. If several people share the account, 5 slots on Standard is safer.
What is the difference between Essential and Standard?
Standard costs $2 more and gives 5 slots instead of 3, 14 days of seeding instead of 24 hours and 500 GB of storage instead of 300 GB. Download cap and speed are the same.
Do I get the bonus days on Essential?
Yes, on a first paid purchase through our link: you get 7 extra days per month bought. A 3 month Essential purchase adds 21 days.
Is the Essential plan good for seeding?
Only briefly. Seeding stops after 24 hours. If you need to keep a share ratio up for private trackers, Standard (14 days) or Pro (30 days) fits better.
