Basics

What Is TorBox? A Plain Explanation (2026)

TorBox is a paid cloud download service. It fetches files on its own servers and gives them back to you over a fast link, with a cache that makes repeat downloads instant.

Last updated Reviewed November 2026

TorBox is a subscription service that acts as a remote downloader. You give it a torrent, a Usenet NZB or a web link. Its servers, located in the Netherlands, do the downloading. When the file is ready you pull it to your device, or point a media app at it. If the same item was fetched by another user within the last 30 days, it is already in the shared cache and you get it immediately.

Services of this type are often called debrid services. For the wider category, read what debrid is.

How it works, step by step

  1. You add an item

Paste a torrent or magnet, upload an NZB for Usenet, or give a web link. You can also add items through the API, a Discord or Telegram bot, an RSS feed or a third-party app.

  2. TorBox checks the cache

If the item is already stored, it is marked cached and ready at once. If not, TorBox’s servers fetch it using one of your slots.

  3. You collect the file

Download it over HTTPS, mount your TorBox storage via WebDAV at webdav.torbox.app, play it in the web player, or let a compatible app stream it.

  4. Seeding and storage

On paid plans, torrents can keep seeding for a set time (24 hours on Essential, 14 days on Standard, 30 days on Pro). Files sit in your storage allowance until you remove them.

Why people use it

Speed. The link between TorBox and you is fast, limited mainly by your own connection. As of November 2026 the plan table lists 250 Mbps on Free, 1 Gbps on Essential and Standard, and 80 Gbps on Pro as plan ceilings.

No client at home. Nothing to leave running, no open ports, and the swarm sees TorBox rather than your home address. It is not a VPN, so it does not anonymise you.

One account for several sources. Torrents, web downloads, Usenet and RSS sit together. Web downloads and the extras require a paid plan, and the pricing page and the free-plan page differ slightly on Usenet, so check the plan table.

Integrations. A documented API, more than 60 third-party apps, and export to cloud storage such as Drive and Dropbox. For the common setups see the Stremio, Kodi and Jellyfin guides.

Permanent storage. AirLock is a paid feature for keeping files beyond the normal storage rules. See AirLock.

Lawful uses

TorBox’s terms require lawful use, and so does this site. Good uses include:

  • Linux distributions, BSD images and other open-source software
  • Your own files, backups and datasets
  • Public domain and independently released media
  • Usenet downloads of software, data and other material you have the right to have
  • Large legitimate archives that would otherwise tie up your home connection

Fetching copyrighted material you have no right to is your legal risk, not something this site supports.

What it is not

  • Not open source. The service is closed; only SDKs and tools are public.
  • Not a mobile app. There is no official one.
  • Not a free-for-all. Fair-use floors (10 TB a month on Essential up to 30 TB on Pro) and an abuse system apply.
  • Not a VPN or an anonymity tool.

Who it suits

  • Someone who downloads big files and wants them without running a client.
  • A tinkerer who wants WebDAV, an API and bots.
  • A media-app user who needs a compatible provider.
  • A Usenet user who wants a News Server option (Pro).

It suits less well anyone who needs a mobile app, open-source infrastructure, or a long-term free service.

Frequently asked questions

What is TorBox in simple terms?

A cloud service that downloads torrents, Usenet files and web links on its servers, then lets you download or stream the finished file from there over HTTPS, WebDAV or compatible apps.

Is TorBox a torrent client or a VPN?

It is not a VPN. It works like a remote torrent client plus Usenet and web downloader. You add an item, TorBox fetches it, and you collect it from TorBox.

What is the TorBox cache?

A shared store of items that someone on TorBox already fetched, kept for 30 days. If your item is cached you skip the wait and download at your own connection speed.

Do I need a paid plan?

The free plan has one slot, 10 GB per download, 10 downloads a month, no seeding and no web downloads. Paid plans start at $3 per month (Essential).

Is there a TorBox mobile app?

No official one. You use the website, Discord and Telegram bots, or third-party apps that support TorBox.

What can I lawfully use TorBox for?

Fetching Linux ISOs, your own files and backups, public domain and independent media, and Usenet downloads such as software and datasets. You are responsible for following the law and the terms.
