Is TorBox Down? How to Check and What to Do
Published Last updated Reviewed November 2026
To see whether TorBox is down, open status.torbox.app first. It lists each service separately, so you can tell a full outage from a problem with one part. When we checked on 1 November 2026 it showed all services online, with the latest incidents (a database degradation on 31 October and an India CDN maintenance on 27 October) already resolved. That page is the source of truth, not a forum post or a third-party “down detector”.
Step 1: read the status page properly
The page splits TorBox into components. Match your problem to one:
| Component group | What it affects |
|---|---|
| API, database, webhook API, website | Logging in, the dashboard, apps that call the API |
| CDN (regional nodes) | Download and streaming speed in your region |
| WebDAV service | Mounting TorBox as a drive in other apps |
| Transcoding service | Web player and stream conversion |
| Web downloads API | Adding direct links |
| Usenet service and news server | Usenet downloads and the news server |
A “degraded” mark on one CDN node usually means slow speeds for some regions, not that everything is broken. The page also lists past incidents and planned maintenance. You can subscribe by e-mail, RSS, Atom, JSON, webhook or Slack so you hear about problems before you notice them.
Step 2: poke the API
Open https://api.torbox.app/ in a browser. When the API is healthy it returns a tiny JSON reply saying that the API is running. If that loads but your app still fails, the problem is likely your key, your app, or a downstream service.
Step 3: rule out your own side
Most “TorBox is down” reports are local. Work through this list:
-
Try the website
Load torbox.app and log in. If the dashboard works, the core service is up.
-
Check another network
Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or turn a VPN off or on. Some networks, DNS resolvers or filters block parts of a service.
-
Test with a different download
Add a small file you own, or one that is already cached. If cached items play but new ones do not start, you may be out of slots, not facing an outage.
-
Check your plan limits
Free accounts have 1 slot and 10 downloads per month. Paid plans range from 3 to 10 slots. TorBox queues extra downloads until a slot frees up, and removes downloads that show no progress for 2 days. See the plan table.
-
Re-enter your API key in the app
An app that suddenly fails with an authorisation error usually has a wrong or reset key. See where to find your TorBox API key.
-
Check your anti-virus
TorBox’s help center has an article on the service being blocked by anti-virus software. Try with it paused for a moment, then re-enable it.
Step 4: ask where people will answer fast
If the status page is green and you have eliminated your side, TorBox’s Discord server (linked from torbox.app) and the help center at support.torbox.app are the places to ask. Include your plan, the app, the exact error and the time. That is more useful to staff than “it is down”.
Specific symptoms
- Slow speeds, nothing else wrong. Follow the TorBox slow speed fix order, look at the CDN section, then at your plan speed (free is 250Mbps, Essential and Standard 1Gbps, Pro 80Gbps).
- WebDAV mount fails. Check the WebDAV service component and your credentials. Our WebDAV guide covers the setup.
- Usenet stuck. Check the Usenet service and the news server entries.
- Everything loads but a new torrent never starts. Peers may be scarce. TorBox notes that torrents with very few seeders download slowly.
Is it worth worrying about reliability?
Every online service has incidents. What matters is how they are reported and fixed. TorBox runs a public status page with history, which is a good sign, and you can read more about the service in our review. If you decide to try it, you can check the status page yourself before you buy.

Why does TorBox work in the browser but not in my app?
Usually the app's API key, a CDN node problem for your region, or an app-side outage. Check the status page for the CDN and the specific service the app uses.
